Blizzard’s hero shooter Overwatch kicked off its second seasonal event in honor of Halloween.
The event was teased in a leaked image allegedly of the mysterious new hero Sombra. The tease also mentioned the new game mode, Dr. Junkenstein’s Revenge, which was confirmed when the event went live.
The new game mode is Overwatch’s first player-versus-enemy (PVE) encounter in which four players must ward off the advances of non-player controlled enemies and protect the doors to the castle of the Eichenwald map.
The most common enemy are the Zomnics, alien invaders in the full game’s universe but reimagined here as monsters created by the evil Dr. Junkenstein.
Four different bosses are featured, taking the form of four of the game’s heroes: Reaper, Mercy, Junkrat and Roadhog.
The players are similarly limited with only Solider: 76, Hanzo, McCree and Ana being available for play in this mode. The mode also limits the team to one of each hero, and there is no switching out of that hero during the match.
Finally, over 100 new customization options have been added to the game, each of them carrying a Halloween theme. These new items can be obtained from the new Halloween loot boxes or purchased with in-game credits, an update from the system employed during the Summer Games event.
