The UCF Knights men’s basketball team have signed Florida’s top player for the first time ever. On March 31, small forward Isaiah Adams was named the Sunshine State’s Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Basketball, an annual award for the best high-school player. Just a week prior, Adams was named the Class 4A Player of the Year, too.

In his senior year for the Paxon Golden Eagles, Adams recorded 23.7 points per game, 11.1 rebounds per game to go along with 2.9 blocks per game and 2.2 assists per game. He led his team to the state semifinals for the second-consecutive season, finishing with a 25-6 record. Duke University center Vernon Carey Jr. won the award in each of the last two seasons, and former Knights point guard B.J. Taylor won in 2014.

Adams, who was the top vote-getter on 10 of 19 ballots, also garnered offers from the FAU Owls, the TCU Horned Frogs, the Virginia Tech Hokies and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, among others.

He signed with Knights back in November 2019.

“It means a lot,” Adams said, per a report by News4Jax.com’s Justin Barney. “To come out and have recognition come, from all the stuff I’ve been through, and just happy to be recognized from people.”

Prior to all spring sports being cancelled, the Knights were preparing to face the USF Bulls in the first round of the American Athletic Conference tournament. UCF finished the shortened season 16-14 (7-11 in AAC), including ending the regular season on a two-game win streak.
