UCF Knights freshman Masseny Kaba is slowly making a name for herself in the American Athletic Conference.

For the third time this season, Kaba earned AAC Freshman of the Week honors, the team announced Jan. 22.

Kaba was pivotal in the Knights’ two wins over the Tulane Green Wave and the SMU Mustangs on Jan. 17 and Jan. 20, respectively.

Against Tulane, she scored a game-high 16 points and recorded team-highs in steals (4) and minutes (39). Kaba scored 6 points, grabbed 2 offensive rebounds and recorded 2 blocks in 22 minutes to complete UCF’s first-ever regular-season sweep of the Mustangs.

The Dorchester, Massachusetts, native has started the last 15 games for the Knights (13-7, 5-2 in AAC), but she started the season coming off the bench for the first five games. She is just one of three freshman in the American to be awarded the honor at least three times, joining the Cincinnati Bearcats’ Iimar’i Thomas and Temple University’s Mia Davis.

Kaba and the Knights, now, take to the road for two games, starting with the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Saturday. They will then meet Thomas and the Bearcats on Tuesday.
