The Orlando Pride send away another one of their players for overseas experience during the 2017-18 National Women’s Soccer League offseason. On Nov. 6, the Pride announced Brazilian defender Monica Hickmann Alves has been loaned to Atlético Madrid. She is the fifth Pride player to play overseas this offseason.

“This is a great chance for Monica to bring her veteran leadership and international experience to a new club and continuing developing as a player,” Pride head coach Tom Sermanni said, per the release. “Being in a new culture and playing in a new system makes it an exciting opportunity for her to add to her skill set.”

The 30-year-old is coming off her second season with the Pride, as she was one of the returning players from the inaugural 2016 season. Last season, she totaled 1,374 minutes while starting 17 of her 20 appearances. Monica and Pride goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris combined for the NWSL Save of the Week in Week 21, too.

Monica will join Atlético Madrid in the middle of their season, as they are defending their 2016-17 season championship with an undefeated 7-0-1 record so far.

The Pride also loaned Australians Steph Catley and Alanna Kennedy, defender Toni Pressley and rookie Rachel Hill to Australian W-League sides.
