After a standout performance for the Miami Heat in the Orlando and Las Vegas Summer Leagues, former University of Central Florida shooting guard Matt Williams has earned a contract with the South Florida team.

According to a press release by the Heat, Williams signed his contract on Monday. Per team policy, the terms of the deal were not revealed.

During his summer with the Heat, Williams showed off what he’s known for: his three-point shooting. In two games in Orlando and six starts in Las Vegas, Williams averaged 9.9 points per game and 2.6 rebounds per game with a 38 percent field-goal percentage and a 39 percent three-point percentage.

In Vegas, Williams shot 45 percent from deep and led the team in threes made in four games. Williams had two standout games in which he went 5-for-8 from deep against the Washington Wizards on July 10 and 6-for-9 from three-point range against the Memphis Grizzlies on July 15.

During his time at UCF, Williams became the school’s all-time leader in three-pointers made and was the 18th player to score 1,000 points for the Knights. He capped off his UCF career with a career senior season, averaging highs in points per game (15.1), rebounds per game (4.8), assists per game (2.0) and minutes per game (36.0).

Only two other former Knights have ever played in the National Basketball Association. Mark Jones played for the Orlando Magic in the 2004-05 season, registering 2.3 points per game on 11.6 minutes per game in 10 total appearances. Jermaine Taylor played 65 games over two seasons for the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings, recording 5.4 points per game.
