The UCF Knights have been projected to finish second in the American Athletic Conference East, according to the AAC media poll.

The poll was revealed at AAC Media Day on Tuesday. UCF was selected to finish second in the East and received no first-place votes.

Knights head coach Scott Frost believes he has an improved team that is headed in the right direction, but he doesn’t care much for predictions.

“Predictions and experts’ guesses on where we’ll end up…I don’t put much stock into that,” Frost said, per a press release from UCF. “I’m glad people think we’re going to be a better football team, but we have to go out on the football field and prove it. Hopefully we’re prepared to do that.”

Last season, UCF was predicted to finish last in the East in the preseason media poll coming off their winless 2015 campaign. The Knights ended up going 4-4 in conference play and finished third in the East in 2016.

Ahead of the Knights in the projected standings are their rivals from the University of South Florida, who received a unanimous vote to finish first in the East Division.

Across the conference in the AAC West, the Memphis Tigers were picked to finish first with Houston, Navy and Tulsa also receiving at least one first-place vote.

With AAC media day festivities in Rhode Island now behind them, the Knights will look forward to preseason training camp starting July 27.
