University of Central Florida redshirt junior wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith has been named to the Fred Biletnikoff Award watch list.

On Tuesday, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation announced the 2017 Biletnikoff Award watch list for the upcoming season. The award is given to the most outstanding receiver in college football. Any player who is a pass-catcher is eligible to receive the award, including running backs and tight ends.

UCF’s Smith was one of the 45 players named to the watch list. During his sophomore season last year, Smith built off an American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year season and enjoyed career-highs of 57 catches for 853 yards and five touchdowns. Smith averaged 65.6 yards per game and had four games of 100 or more receiving yards.

The 45 players to make the list are not final, however, as more players can be added during the season.

Finalists will be narrowed down to 10 semifinalists on Nov. 13, and the national-selection committee will choose a winner that will be announced on Dec. 7 at the Home Depot College Football Awards show.

Smith is the first UCF receiver named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list since Rannell Hall and Breshad Perriman both were in 2014. He joins fellow Knights Shaquem Griffin, Jamiyus Pittman, Jordan Akins and Matthew Wright as the fifth Knight to be named to an award watch list this preseason.

Smith and the Knights will open fall training camp on July 27.
