Leading up to the newest Transformers movie, trailers and teasers hinted at a turned Optimus Prime killing the beloved Bumblebee. In the latest Transformers: The Last Knight trailer, Prime, in fact, narrowly avoids killing his longtime partner when Bee quickly equips his helmet.

Bumblebee, however, does not go unscathed in his duel with the Autobots leader. At the 1:24 mark, Prime tears off Bee’s wings in what could be one of the series most heartbreaking duels.

But something must be driving Prime to a point where he would kill one of his most trusted allies. Prime seeks redemption for supposedly destroying his world. But in the opening seconds where a mysterious female figure speaks to Prime, it looks like Prime is held against his will.

Furthermore, at the 1:50 mark, Mark Wahlberg’s Cade Yeager’s line—which had previously been dubbed to say, “We’re not giving up, okay?” in previous trailers—is altered to, “We’re not giving up on Prime, okay?”

Knowing Prime’s character, he could be doing something against his own will for the better good.

The Last Knight is slated for a June 23 release date.
