Orlando City B looks to add to its defensive front with its latest acquisition. On Tuesday, the team announced the signing of Brazilian center-back Léo Pereira on a season-long loan from the club’s official partner, Clube Atlético Paranaense. Per the official release, this is the first signing between the two clubs since the the partnership was announced in November 2016.
In 2016, Pereira played most of the 2016 season with Clube Náutico Capibaribe, appearing in five matches for the Série B side. A year before that, Pereira appeared in eight matches with Guaratinguetá.
“We’re really pleased to capture a player of Leo’s quality,” OCB head coach Anthony Pulis said, per the release. “He can operate as a center-back or left-back and has great pedigree, having played at a good level in Brazil and for the Brazil youth national teams. He’s aggressive, reads the game well and is very comfortable in possession. We’re really excited to welcome him to our group and start working with him.”
Orlando City B opens its second United Soccer League season on March 25 with an away match with the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The B team Lions will then return to Orlando City Stadium on March 30 for their home-opener against Louisville City FC.
