The Orlando Pride announced its first two games of the season.
On Tuesday, the team announced that it would host the Washington Spirit for its first-ever match in the new soccer-specific stadium in downtown Orlando. The Pride will open their season on the road in the same place where it all began: Portland. On April 15 at 3 p.m. ET, Orlando will face Portland Thorns FC.
Orlando’s opening match with the Spirit will be the first time newly acquired Pride player Ali Krieger will face her former team after being traded in the offseason.
As for the Portland game, the Pride started their inaugural season with a 2-1 loss to the Thorns in Portland last season. Australian left-back Steph Catley scored Orlando’s first-ever goal on a free kick in the 12th minute. The Pride’s season-opening matchup with the Thorns will also be the debut of Lifetime’s NWSL Game of the Week as part of the league’s new TV deal.
The Pride will play their 2017 NWSL season in the new soccer-specific stadium in downtown Orlando.
