In case you missed perhaps one of the happiest day in a lot of web-heads’ lives, Insomniac Games unveiled the first trailer of a PS4-exclusive title, simply named (for now) Spider-Man. Not only is the game not another doomed, movie-based release, but IGN’s Joshua Yehl confirmed with some higher-ups behind the scenes that this will be Insomniac Games’s original interpretation of the arachnid humanoid.
To add to the already-great news, the trailer revealed at E3 is reportedly all in-game footage from a current-generation PS4, according to a report by IGN’s Joe Skrebels. Yes, you heard that correctly. You won’t need to buy the new PlayStation Neo to get all this wall-crawling goodness.
Fans have been looking forward to a Spider-Man game that could rival the likes of the Batman Arkham series. Not since Activision’s 2004 Spider-Man 2 installment (which, oddly enough, was a successful, movie-based video game) have fans had a game to rave about. No, please do not mention The Amazing Spider-Man video game. Apart from its mediocre-at-best free-roam (that had you attaching webs to imaginary points in the sky in classic N64 fashion), the film-based namesake lacked gameplay attractive enough to keep even the most die-hard fans engaged for more than an hour at a time.
While there hasn’t been an official release date announced, there hopefully won’t be too long of a wait before web-heads everywhere can starting swinging through the streets of New York again.
I’ve gotta say, Insomniac’s Spider-Man was the biggest surprise for me from the whole E3 event. I was really hoping that they were hard at work on Sunset Overdrive 2, but I’m more than happy with this as well!! The fact that the footage we saw was all running in-game is nothing short of amazing! Nice write-up.
I can’t tell you how excited I am for this game. I was a big fan of the Batman Arkham series, and I’ve only ever dreamed of seeing a Spider-Man game with similar gameplay. And what stuck out to me as one of the best parts about this teaser was how populated the streets of New York were. To be able to put that much into the game and still have it look that good–I’m excited, man!
