Five players from the Orlando Pride were named to the team’s 2020 allocation list. The National Women’s Soccer League released its list of allocated U.S. and Canadian players on Feb. 20.
The United States women’s national team allocated goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris, forward Alex Morgan and defenders Emily Sonnett and Ali Krieger, and the Canadian women’s national team allocated defender Shelina Zadorsky. All five players represented their respective countries in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, as the U.S. won its second-consecutive title.
Krieger returns to the allocation list after having previously been allocated from 2013 to 2017. Last season, she started all 12 of her appearances for 1,080 minutes, tallying an assist. Her performance led to her landing among the 2019 NWSL Best XI.
—
Last season, Harris eclipsed the 100-games mark, starting 13 times. She tallied 58 saves, including four NWSL Save of the Week honors, and one clean sheet.
—
Morgan’s six-goal performance in the World Cup earned her the Silver Boot. Her 2019 season was cut short when she was ruled out for the remainder of the season on Sept. 16, 2019, with three matches remaining. Morgan had suffered a “patella stress reaction” in her right knee stemming from a previous injury with the USWNT.
Nonetheless, she played in six matches in 2019, playing all 90 minutes in each of the four games ahead of the World Cup. Morgan last saw action in an Aug. 21, 2019, matchup with the Chicago Red Stars but suffered a concussion six minutes in.
Morgan is now seven-months pregnant. She is married to former Orlando City SC midfielder Servando Carrasco, who currently plays for the Los Angeles Galaxy.
—
The Pride acquired Sonnett in a trade that also brought forward Caitlin Foord to Orlando and sent the first-overall pick in the 2020 NWSL College Draft to Portland Thorns FC. In 72 matches for the Thorns, Sonnett tallied six goals and two assists. Last season, she played 13 games and scored twice, earning 2019 NWSL Second XI honors.
—
Zadorsky scored once in 16 appearances, all starts, and played all 1,440 available minutes for the Pride in 2019. In 2018, she played all 2,070 available minutes in 23 starts, adding two assists.
