Orlando City SC adds to its defense two games into the 2019 season.

On Tuesday, the club announced the signing of center back Robin Jansson, pending reception of his international-transfer certificate and P1 visa.

“Robin is a guy that we’re excited to bring to Orlando after the success he has had overseas in Sweden,” Lions Executive Vice President of Soccer Operations Luiz Muzzi said, per the release. “This signing continues to build depth and competition within our group for the 2019 season.”

Jansson joins Orlando City from AIK Fotboll of Sweden’s top-tier league, Allsvenskan. The 27-year-old started 25 matches in AIK’s league play last season. He scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Kalmar FF on July 29, 2018, to help AIK to the league title.

Additionally, Jansson also started three matches in AIK’s Europa League qualifying matches.

Jansson previously played for Swedish side IK Oddevold in the country’s third-tier league for three seasons.

On the international stage, Jansson only recently made his Swedish men’s national-team debut on Jan. 8 in a friendly against the Finnish men’s national team.

Jansson is already in Orlando, as he is missing Svenska Cupen play. AIK are undefeated, so far, in the competition and will play AFC Eskilstuna on Sunday in the semifinals.

The Lions are coming off a 1-1 draw with Chicago Fire SC in which Fire forward C.J. Sapong scored off an inside-the-box header in the 94th minute. Orlando City are 0-0-2 with two points heading into a home bout with the Montreal Impact on Saturday at 4 p.m.
