Orlando City Stadium will once again be the host site of a United States men’s national-team match, Orlando City SC announced on Feb. 2.
The U.S. will play the Ecuadorian men’s national team on March 21 at 7:30 p.m. ahead of both sides’ respective confederation tournaments in the summer. This will be new USMNT Head Coach Gregg Berhalter’s third match at the helm after beating the Panamanian men’s national team 3-0 on Jan. 27 and the Costa Rican men’s national team 2-0 on Feb. 2.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our fans to be part of the U.S. men’s national-team journey,” Lions CEO Alex Leitão said, per the release. “In the two years since we opened Orlando City Stadium, our fans have created an energy and atmosphere that continues to bring more marquee soccer events to the city of Orlando, exposing us to many different audiences and countries around the world.”
The U.S. will play in Orlando for the third time ever, the second time since Orlando City Stadium opened. After the Americans defeated the Swedish men’s national team 1-0 in 1998, they returned to the City Beautiful on Oct. 6, 2017, to beat Panama 4-0 in front of 25,303 fans.
“Ecuador has an experienced, athletic team that will provide a good test for our group,” Berhalter said, per the release. “We will use this opportunity to continue to build on the foundation of the team as we develop our style of play. Playing in Orlando City Stadium is a great soccer experience. The atmosphere is fantastic.”
Orlando City Stadium will later host the 2019 Major League Soccer All-Star Game this summer.
Tickets for the USMNT’s match with Ecuador go on sale on Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. They will only be sold at the stadium on the day of the game.
