ORLANDO, Fla. – After coming off an upset sweep of the defending national champions, the No. 1 Florida Gators, the UCF Knights extended their win streak to 10 games with a win in dramatic fashion.

The Knights (11-3) defeated the Siena Saints (0-12) 1-0 at home in front of 1,004 fans at John Euliano Park Saturday afternoon.

“Our pitching did well. We struck them out a lot and forced bad contact and played good defense for the most part, which was good to see,” UCF head coach Greg Lovelady said after the win.

Junior Knights pitcher Chris Williams (2-0) pitched a gem, going 8.0 innings and allowing six hits and no runs with six strikeouts.

Redshirt junior Cre Finfrock (1-0) earned the win after pitching one clean-up inning in the ninth, walking one batter and striking out two.

“I’m feeling more comfortable especially as the season goes on,” Williams said after the game. “The more you pitch, the comfortable you get.”

Siena sophomore starter Brendan White (0-3) pitched 7.0 innings, giving up only three hits with four strikeouts.

The Knights waited until the bottom of the ninth inning to score the game’s only run. UCF was tied 0-0 with Siena when sophomore third baseman Jackson Webb started off the inning with a lead-off single but was then caught stealing, leaving the Knights with no baserunners and an out.

After junior second baseman Matthew Mika struck out in the Knights’ next at-bat, sophomore Rylan Thomas hit a single. Then, junior left fielder Tyler Osik hit the game-winning triple to bring Thomas home.

Throughout the entire game, UCF made key defensive plays to keep its shutout alive.

In the third, junior shortstop Brandon Hernandez made a diving stop to catch a line drive going toward left-center field to start a 1-2-3 inning.

Arguably the biggest play came from Ray Alejo in the sixth inning when he gunned down Siena sophomore Jonathan Crimmin at home plate to prevent a run and keeping the game tied at 0-0.
