Scoring was scarce in the UCF Knights’ second game of a home double-header, but the runs came in exciting fashion.

The Knights (13-8) defeated Ball State University (12-6) 2-1 Tuesday afternoon to complete their double-header sweep in front of 104 fans. UCF is coming off a 1-0 win over the Virginia Tech Hokies from earlier in the day.

UCF’s Alea White (10-5), who pitched a complete-game shutout against VT, didn’t start in back-to-back games but earned the win anyway, as she pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Sophomore Kamryn Toney started and allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks, striking out three.

For Ball State, Aeshia Miles (6-3) started and earned the loss, allowing two earned runs on six hits and no walks with six strikeouts.

Ball State started its scoring early but couldn’t find a way to bring home more runs after the first inning. After the Cardinals’ first two batters lined out and struck out looking, sophomore Janae Hogg stepped to the plate and launched a solo shot over the wall for a 1-0 lead.

Second baseman Maddy Labrador doubled to right-center field in her next at-bat, but a lineout to shortstop Kaitlyn Jensen ended the inning.

The Knights didn’t respond until the fourth inning, stranding runners on first and second in the bottom of the third inning. Then, in the fourth, UCF struck early.

Senior Courtney Rotton started the bottom half of the fourth with a single to left field. She was followed by Jensen’s lead-taking, two-run bomb that gave UCF the 2-1 lead and the game its final score.

Who’s Next?

The Knights will now prepare for the University of South Florida Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, first playing the Chattanooga Mocs on Friday at 4:15 p.m. UCF’s latest tournament will keep them away from campus for the next five games, as the Knights return home on Wednesday.
