ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando City SC completed another training scrimmage, out-scoring the Philadelphia Union 3 goals to 1 on Feb. 14, but the Lions didn’t escape unscathed.
According to a team spokesman, the Lions suffered injuries to forward Dom Dwyer and midfielder Richie Laryea that could keep them sidelined for up to a month. Dwyer is nursing a Grade 1 quad strain, and Laryea has a Grade 1 right-adductor strain.

Dwyer seemed to be on the mend, as Philly was his first preseason action in three scrimmages, so far. City head coach Jason Kreis said Dwyer “looked a little rusty” in his 45-minute, preseason debut, but that was to be expected.
The United States men’s national-team forward withdrew from a national-team camp in early January because of a right-hamstring injury. After joining the Lions in the latter half of last season, Dwyer tallied 4 goals and a career-high 4 assists in just 12 games, 11 starts.
As for Laryea, he spent most of his time in the United Soccer League for Orlando City B last season. There, he proved to be effective in drawing fouls, forcing the opposition to foul him 57 times. Laryea scored 3 goals and had 2 assists, too.
In 2017, Laryea appeared in the first team’s last five matches. He took just 3 shots (2 on-goal) and recorded an assist in after subbing on for 35 minutes in a 6-1 loss to the New England Revolution on Sept. 27, 2017. Laryea also started and played all 90 minutes of City’s final game of 2017: a 6-1 loss to the Union.
City continue their preseason schedule with their third scrimmage in a week on Saturday against Real Salt Lake.
