The offseason can be a time of improvement by addition, but it can also mean the end of a player’s tenure with a team.
Unfortunately for forward Jamia Fields, the latter was her fate on Feb. 12, as the Orlando Pride announced they waived the two-year Pride player.
Thankful for two years with the Orlando Pride! Thank you to the fans and everyone who has supported me. Thankful for my teammates and the time I got to spend and play with some of my best friends. Excited for what God has next with a new team and new opportunity! pic.twitter.com/gdbIi487BO

“It’s a sad and difficult decision to release one of our founding players,” Pride head coach Tom Sermanni said, per the team’s press release. “I’d like to thank Jamia for her passion and outstanding commitment to the Pride over the past two seasons.
“She has been a consummate professional throughout her time at the club. We wish her every success with her career moving forward.”
Orlando selected Fields with the fifth pick in the 2015 NWSL Expansion Draft ahead of the Pride’s inaugural season in 2016. Fields previously played with the then-Western New York Flash before recording 2 assists and 1,223 minutes in 27 appearances and 13 starts in two seasons for Orlando.
Before her time in Central Florida, the Alta Loma, California, native played four seasons at Florida State University. There, she scored 14 goals in 103 appearances. Fields is also second in all-time assists for the ‘Noles, notching 30 over her collegiate career.
The Pride will play FSU for their first preseason match of 2018 on Feb. 28.
