Masseny Kaba has reached another milestone in her young career. The freshman had her best performance for the UCF Knights (15-7, 7-2 in American Athletic Conference) yet, recording her first-career double-double in a 50-38 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats Tuesday night at Saint Ursula Academy.

Kaba tied two other players in scoring with 14 points and was the only player to record double-digit rebounds, 18. Zakiya Saunders also scored 14, as she added 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.

For the Bearcats (13-9, 5-4 in AAC), they were led by forward Shanice Johnson with 14 points and 6 rebounds in 22 minutes.

From the start, the Knights led Cincinnati and never relinquished their lead. By halftime, UCF held a 25-12 lead, holding Cincinnati to six points in each of the first two quarters.

The Knights extended their lead to as high as 21 points with just over two minutes left in the third quarter, as Kaba capped an 8-3 run over the Bearcats with an inside look to claim a 42-21 lead.

UCF’s defense played a pivotal factor in the victory, holding the Bearcats to 26.4 percent shooting. The Bearcats tried to score from 3-point range but found no success; in total, Cincinnati shot 0-for-14 from deep. Cincinnati, however, found success at the free-throw line, shooting 10-for-12 in the loss to the Knights.

Who’s Next?

The Knights return home for a two-game stretch, beginning with the Memphis Tigers on Saturday at 2 p.m. Then, UCF will host the No. 1 UConn Huskies on Feb. 7.
