It’s been more than two years since Gareth Edwards’s Godzilla was released. Yes, we have gone two years without a giant-monster-fighting movie. But on Tuesday, Legendary Pictures and Universal Studios confirmed a release date for the much-anticipated sequel to the kaiju-killing blockbuster Pacific Rim.

Pacific Rim 2 will hit theaters on Feb. 23, 2018, according to a report by TheWrap.com’s Thom Geier.

John Boyega will be the protagonist in director Steven DeKnight’s sequel. Boyega is perhaps most notable for starring in Star Wars: The Force Awaken. DeKnight was an executive producer for the TV show Spartacus: War of the Damned. More recently, he has been an executive producer for 13 episodes of the Netflix original show Daredevil.

Boyega will join returning Pacific Rim producers Thomas Tull, Guillermo del Toro and Mary Parent on the production team.

Until February 2018, we’ll leave you with perhaps the most epic underdog quote in a movie from this decade.Idris Elba 1
