ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando City SC center-back Tommy Redding has performed well for both his club and in his first experiences as part of the United States men’s national team. During the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) U-20 Tournament, Redding led the U-20 USMNT to a gold medal.

That has made an impression on senior-team head coach Bruce Arena.

“Well I watched him play a fair amount last year, and this year he has a good start,” Arena said during a press conference before City’s match against Sporting Kansas City. “He’s still a young player. He needs to have a good tournament with the U-20s and then come back here and fight for his place with Orlando City, and, at his age, if he can get a—position himself to be in a first team, playing on a regular basis, he’s certainly gonna be a player that’s got a future with the senior, national-team program as well.”

Redding is in camp with the U-20 squad preparing for the U-20 World Cup in South Korea. The U.S. will play in Group F with Ecuador, Senegal and Saudi Arabia. The Americans’ first match will be on May 22 at 4 a.m. ET against Ecuador.
