For Orlando City SC, the outside back positions have been a persistent issue because of injuries. Starting right-back Rafael Ramos and back-ups Kevin Alston and Tony Rocha have all sustained injuries during the 2017 preseason.

On Friday, the Lions addressed the issue by signing Scott Sutter, according to a press release.

“We are very happy to have secured Scott’s signature,” Lions general manager Niki Budalic said, per the release. “He brings excellent technical ability and will add valuable depth and experience to our defense. We’re excited to see what he will do.

Since 2009, Sutter had played for BSC Young Boys of the Swiss Super League. In his last season with the Swiss side, he scored one goal and recorded two assists in 32 appearances in the Swiss Super League and UEFA Champions and Europa leagues.

Sutter is a London, England, native and moved to Switzerland when he was 16 years old. In Switzerland, he played with Grasshoppers Zurich. Sutter eventually played in 59 matches for Grasshopper, starting at 18 years old. He then moved onto Young Boys.

The Swiss citizen also has two national-team caps for the Switzerland men’s national team.

The 30-year-old will fill an international spot for the Lions.
