It appears that the man who started the live-action Transformers cinematic universe is done with the Autobots and Decepticons after Transformers: The Last Knight.

Director Michael Bay writes on his website that this final film is “bittersweet,” as the Transformers cinematic universe begins to enter a new era.

“It’s bittersweet for me,” Bay wrote. “With every Transformers film, I’ve said it would be my last. I see the 120 million fans around the world who see these movies, the huge theme-park lines to the ride and the amazing Make-A-Wish kids who visit my sets, and it somehow keeps drawing me back.

“I love doing these movies. This film was especially fun to shoot. But this time might really be it. So I’m blowing this one out.”

According to a report by ScreenRant.com’s Alex Leadbeater, Bay has also said both Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Transformers: Age of Extinction would be his last films.

The Last Knight will be the first movie since Paramount decided to create spin-off movies of the Transformers cinematic universe, per Leadbeater. Currently, a standalone movie for Bumblebee is slated for a 2018 release. A G.I. Joe crossover is also a possibility.

Bay’s fifth Transformers installment is set to release on June 23, 2017.
